about

With their manifesto to reignite the forgotten flames of rock ‘n’ roll with modern sparks of technology and DIY passion, Junk Machine are on a mission. Revolutionary and retro at the same time, ‘Inner Child Labour’ re-programs the sounds of an entire generation - from the glam rock leanings of ‘Dionysus’, or the bluesy psych of ‘Starchild’ to the Lennon-esque spiritual rock of ‘Bondage Blues’. Spiky punk, smooth gospel rock and traditional rock ‘n’ roll all get the Junk Machine treatment, and the result is a brighter, fun, no-nonsense re-telling of an old story.
Formed in 2011, Junk Machine is fronted by Daniel Thornhill, a classical composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who has complete and utter disregard for anything boring and predictable. Thornhill teamed up with self-made production and engineering wizard, Jonas Skarmark and hyper-active drummer Kristoffer van der Pas (of Bergen’s Kakkmaddafakka). This extraordinary three-piece are not limited by their number, or the instruments they play; the ‘Junk Machine’, a slew of old analogue equipment and new digital computers manned by Skarmark, processes their sound directly from the stage whilst triggering pre-made loops, choir parts, grooves and bass lines. Junk Machine can be both a lone voice or legion.
